Should I choose a Traditional or Modern Fireplace?

However, in the right contexts, a modern fireplace can also achieve a really nice effect in a period property. 

If you choose a subtle, minimalist modern fireplace, then it can create an artful contrast to its surroundings. This is best done if the rest of the property interior matches this vibe.

So, think about your own design style – if you prefer modern and minimalist aesthetics, your fireplace can enhance this effect even further. 

Choosing the best fuel source for your property

Many traditional fireplaces require either a flue or a chimney to be installed. This is because these ventilation units safely remove the emissions of the fireplace, away from the living area. 

So, if you live in a flat or another property type where these building renovations are not possible, then you may need to choose a modern fireplace. 

Electric fireplaces and bio ethanol fireplaces don’t require flues or chimneys, so can be fitted in any property type. 

Utilising space effectively 

If you know exactly where you want to position your new fireplace, but space is a little tight, then a modern fireplace might be the best way to use the space. 

Modern fireplaces can be installed in a wide range of different space-efficient ways. These include inset electric fires, hole in the wall fireplaces and media wall fireplaces. They utilise the space to its fullest, and create a really striking, seamless visual effect.

Either way, whether you go for traditional or modern, performance needs to be your top priority.
