Why invest in a media wall?

Media walls are designed to help home owners organise and store their devices and key items, in a way that is neat and tidy, while still keeping them easy to access and use.

Not only do they look extremely elegant, but they are also brilliantly functional, allowing property owners to keep their living spaces clean, tidy and practical for daily use.

Media walls are also completely customisable, meaning each property owner can design the best-fit layout for their specific home and requirements.

For instance, a media wall can be designed to include a fireplace, a TV, a games console / entertainment system, a sound system, lighting, and many more. At the same time, the layout ensures all cables and clutter are neatly hidden.

Media wall FAQs

Below, our experts have answered some of our customers’ most common media wall questions.

Will the fireplace affect my electronics?

No, media wall fireplaces are designed so that any electronics in the unit won’t be affected.

This is because electric fireplaces (which are the most common choice for media walls) have a controllable heat output, and the heat from the unit is usually emitted either from the front or bottom. As a result, the space and items above the unit remain cool.

Furthermore, your media wall installer will take further safety precautions to prevent this risk, including leaving ventilation gaps above the fireplace.

How can loose cables be managed?

Media walls use a series of clever features to keep cables and other clutter hidden.

This includes using recessed cable channels or trunking inside the wall, and positioning power sockets and HDMI points within niches, for example.

What electronic devices can be housed in a media wall?

Media walls can be designed to feature numerous electronic devices. They can be stored and displayed in either built-in shelving or open display niches, to keep the electronics looking neat, while still being easy and enjoyable to use.

A media wall can house electronics including:

  • Games consoles
  • Streaming devices (which need to be added to the TV, e.g. an Amazon Firestick)
  • Soundbars and surround sound systems
  • Blu-ray players

Best practices for mounting a games console in a media wall

  1. Use a wall mount or bracket – By using a dedicated, slimline wall mount or bracket (which is designed to suit your specific console type), you can ensure the console is secure. This is also a great way to keep the console suspended from any surfaces, ensuring it is well-ventilated.
  2. Build a ventilated shelf – Alternatively, you can add a niche or recess into your media wall design. However, if you take this approach, ensure it is suitably ventilated (e.g. with the addition of a grille panel, or an open front).
  3. Keep the wires hidden – You can do this by running any cables through the wall. Other options to keep the wires neat and tidy include cable brush plates, for example.
