Can I Install a TV above a Fireplace?

Temperature of fire

It goes without saying that if your fireplace gets too hot, anything plastic in its vicinity may be at risk of overheating. Indeed, a TV is no exception to this, and could fall ‘victim’ to overheating caused by your fire which may create functionality problems and could even see the plastic of the TV burn or melt.

TV height

If you have a large fireplace, and would therefore be mounting your TV very high up on the wall, this may not be suitable or smart. If you are forced to look up for prolonged periods of time while watching your TV, your neck could suffer from serious strains, making watching TV not only uncomfortable but bad for your health. Make sure your fireplace is small enough that a TV could comfortably be mounted on the wall above it without you having to crane your neck to watch.

Before you buy a TV, consider this: where will you be mounting it, and how? Mounting a TV is not as simple as putting up a picture; you need to take into account where the TV electrical cables will go, if it is near enough to reach to the TV port within your room, and whether, finally, it will be safe and well-located in the area you have designated for it.
